Borrowing his name from a character from William Burroughs' famed novel 'Naked Lunch',Mugwump is an elusive presence. The revered Belgian producer and DJ came to the fore as part of Belgium's electronic scene in the early 90s (trough the pioneering Belgian house institution, the Food Club) and has released records on Kompakt, R&S, Gigolo, Misericord, Cocoon, Throne of Blood, Endless Flight, Eskimo, Astrolab, Permanent Vacation & International Feel, his talents being consistently sought after yet rarely pinned down. Continuing to progress in fresh and inventive directions, he launched his own Subfield label with indie giant !K7, to release his debut album, « Unspell », a timeless excursion into leftfield dance-pop and mutant disco with heavy New-Beat & Factory influences, also gathering a solid list of collaborators and an ambitious translation to the stage with a live band in a storming psych/electronic funk/indie mix (shows at Dour, The Great Escape, Eurosonic, Transardentes, ABBota, Beautés Soniques, Hermès, Scopitone,…)
This is the special deluxe edition of the album, which bounds through everything from New-Beat & Post-Punk to Funk or Disco.
Following an across the board praise, with serious accolades in the music press from the likes of Uncut, Mixmag, DJ Mag, Nowness or The Fader to Les Inrockuptibles, Le Soir, De Standaard or Metro, "Unspell" has been dubbed « Belgium’s underground answer to Daft Punk » by German electronic mag, Groove magazine.
New bonus material features 2 new songs, « Head- Master » (EBM funk) & « Voetbalknieen », a cover from cult Dutch Post-Punk hero Ton Lebbink, which has been a crowd fave at Mugwump live shows. 2 unreleased live versions are also added.
